Why We Need Your Support

As time passes, we all understand how things, including buildings and people, wear out and become out-dated with age. The original wing of our building is approaching 60 years of age. Due to increasing demand for privacy, we have converted some semi-private rooms to private rooms and delicensed to our current capacity of 86.

Costs of everything have increased significantly since 1961. The cost of the original building, land, and furnishings totaled $137,000. The cost for a semi-private room was $125 a month (not a typo) and employees were paid $.75 an hour. Due to the current costs of construction, estimated in the range of $200 per square foot, there is a significant need for funds in order for this project to proceed beyond Phase 1, which has already been approved by the board.

Administration and the Board of Trustees has put together a list of reasons for a new skilled nursing home building. Some of these are simply the age and design of our current building. The demand for private rooms has been a clear trend for a number of years. The new design is for all private rooms with private bathrooms. The new design significantly lessens elopement risk for a wandering resident and it creates an environment which is much more conducive to caring of those with dementia who are overstimulated by excess noise and activity. We would be happy to share the new design and the entire list of reasons for a new building with anyone who is interested.
